How Much Should It Cost To Remodel Your Bathroom?

In order to determine the cost to remodel your bathroom, let’s first assume you are shopping for a professional, full service remodeler who provides real craftsmanship and current, good quality products.  Not a guy who guesses at a price and then sends you out to get the products.

Scope Of Work And The Cost To Remodel Your Bathroom

Let’s define your bathroom. Is it a simple 3 fixture 5 x 7 or 5 x 8 room with a tub, toilet and small vanity with 1 sink?  Is it 30 years old or less?  If this is your bathroom and we are talking about a pull and replace job (new plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, lighting and tile} but everything stays the same size in the same location, It starts at about $12000.

Is it just a little larger, 5 x 9 or 10 and have 2 sinks? It starts about $15500.

Are we looking at the powder room with just a toilet and sink 3 x 6 or 5 x 5. Starting price will be about $6000.

Many master baths built in the last 30 years are what we refer to as 5 fixture baths. 2 sinks, 1 toilet, 1 tub and a separate shower.  They vary  dramatically in size.  The smallest being about 8 x 10.  The simplest pull and replace remodel of this bathroom is going to start around $27000.

What Does A Complete Bathroom Remodel Mean to You?

The next thing to define in determining the cost to remodel your bathroom is what does a complete bathroom remodel mean to you.  Does it include converting a tub to a shower?  Does it include wall tile beyond standard height in the wet area? Does it include a glass enclosure?  Does it include painting?  What about an exhaust fan? Do you want to replace the drywall? What about the door or the window? Do you want a hand held shower? Niches in the shower?  A floor warming system?  As you can understand some or all of these items can significantly affect the cost to remodel your bathroom.

Older construction, relocating fixtures, and adding or removing walls will also add to the cost.

The Selection of Your New Bathroom Materials

The last factor to affect the cost to remodeling your bathroom is the selection of material.  The material we include in our initial quote is current, name brand and good quality, but very honestly it is specified because it answers the question:  How much do I have to spend to remodel my bathroom. It does not answer How much can I spend.  If you choose to proceed we will work with you to find the specific products that meet all of your needs from function to aesthetics to budget.

The last thing to remember is you are shopping for a service, not a collection of products. There is a huge difference between getting the tile on the wall and doing a beautiful tile installation.

The difference between a product and a service: a product can be inspected prior to purchase, a service is purchased before you can see it and is not returnable, so make sure that you fully consider all of the intangibles before you make your final decision and budget the cost to remodel your bathroom.
